At PhotoBox we passionately believe in the values of the open web and consumer choice; if you do as well then please join us in our mini effort to encourage the mighty ‘community driven’ flickr to play fair. So put your hands in the air by signing this petition and who knows, just maybe, the very smart folks at flickr HQ in sunny CA will stop, take note and reconsider their decision to cut off our full API access. We believe it’s entirely their choice to have a preferential online prints partner in the UK and Europe all over (y)our photostreams (or not!) but to exclusively cut us off ‘due to these contractual obligations’ is a harsh step too far and flies in the face of what we all want – an open and social web driven by consumer choice. So let’s make a people powered difference and protect those values. Sign our petition now. C’mon Flickr: Please Play Fair

Count me in.
As a professional photographer who uses Photobox and Flickr I can see the benefits of the Flickr>Photobox API.
Although it’s not something that I have used or ever would use, I can see from a business sense where the benefits in having this API lay. To remove your access is (from a business point of view), increadibly silly.
E.g. My friend uploads photos to flickr and has the prints created by Photobox.
He can share the flickr URL with his friends and everyone is happy. The flickr functionality just adds to the experience.
Now, remove the photobox part of this exchange and my friend has a choice to make. Use a different print company he does not know, does not trust and quality that does not meet that of Photobox (print quality, customer service and indeed speed of delivery). This choice is with my friend and I suspect with many others one that is dismissed quickly.
In fact my friend has decided not to renew his pro flickr account as it no longer serves the purposes it once did.
Anyway… rant over!
This is a disgrace. Count me in.
I’ve also alerted the hoard, so expect some traffic.
I am a “Pro” user of Flickr, with the ID “parkylondon”. I have over 10,000 pictures up there and I want to be able to continue with my choice of printing partner.
I don’t mind Flickr choosing SnapFish as their primary printing partner and to promote that relationship on their site. What I object to is the malicious deleting of my access to a third party printing partner.
I think it is unfair, unnecessary and unreasonable behaviour on Flickr’s part and the decision should be reversed.
I would encourage, therefore, anyone reading this to go to the petition link in the main post above and sign it.
Thanks
Parkylondon
Interestingly, we are working on an app for a pro galleries client for his external site to interface with the photobox galleries (and we have something visually rather special in mind), but the lack of api your end is making this quite difficult
(we will link back to the photobox pro gallery for purchases btw.)
are there any plans to open up the photobox api?
p.s. we are having trouble actually getting hold of anyone at photobox to discuss this, so if you could let us know who to talk to this would be very beneficial. (we will shortly have a prototype up and running)
Here here, I agree with Rob Oates above - would love you to open up your progallery API so we can get a consistently branded site for our users and hopefully even more yummy sales!
Yes we have the Flickr debate and lots of offers on photobooks, but what ever happened to Pro Galleries, nothing it seems. Nothing seems to have changed for months. Anyone agree?
1. The links to the petition are broken.
2. Rob and Rob have a good point; if you want Flickr to be open, you may want to lead by example.
Unfortunately, companies based in the USA are not restricted by anti-competitive practices as they would be in Europe.
Looks like they’re rethinking. Las I heard was that they were getting in touch with you again due to, erm, ‘customer feedback’.
You took the link away from designers and pro gallery owners without a backward glance. see the similarities?
I see you haven’t replied to those who asked whether you are also going to open up your own galleries, like you’re asking Flickr to do. Could we have a comment, please?
